Fit Type & Size Guidance

Closing our biggest on-page gap before next season's launch

Generated April 2026 — Please verify each row before we publish to the feed

Why This Report Exists

One of our biggest on-page gaps right now is accurate Fit info on product detail pages. Customers can't tell from our pages how a jacket actually fits — slim? relaxed? true to size? This is confirmed by customer data as a major driver of returns and sizing confusion, especially in the US. It also hurts us in Google Shopping, where missing fit and sizing attributes mean our products lose out on structured data that competitors surface.

The Problem

As part of the Google Shopping feed data enrichment project, we spotted two major gaps: Fit Type and Size Guidance. This info needs to exist on the PDP first, so we can then add it to the shopping feed and product schema.

The Evidence

67,000 support conversations about sizing in the last 2 years (56% of all product questions). 1,901 product reviews with explicit sizing feedback. 71k+ Intercom threads growing 80%+ year-over-year. This is our single largest CX cost driver.

The Fix

Add accurate fit type (Regular, Relaxed, Boxy, Slim, Baggy) and size guidance (True to size) to the PDP and Google Shopping feed for all ski jackets and pants. This report maps every value and flags conflicts for verification.

What We Need From You

Verify the proposed fit values against the actual garments — especially the 5 products where our sources disagree. Download the checklist spreadsheet below, fill it in, and send it back. We'll publish to the feed once everything is validated.

How to Use This Report

This report presents our proposed fit values with supporting data. To verify, download the checklist spreadsheet and mark each row as verified or suggest corrections.

Sizing Overview from Customer Reviews

Based on 1,901 verified customer reviews where sizing was explicitly mentioned.

Dope Ski Jackets (135 mentions / 696 reviews)

True to size 64% Runs large 22% Runs small 14%

Dope Ski Pants (142 mentions / 437 reviews)

True to size 70% Runs large 21% Runs small 9%

Montec Ski Jackets (124 mentions / 497 reviews)

True to size 66% Runs large 19% Runs small 15%

Montec Ski Pants (110 mentions / 271 reviews)

True to size 57% Runs large 35% Runs small 8%
Note: Montec ski pants have a notably higher "runs large" signal (35%) compared to Dope (21%). The Fawk Bib in particular trends towards running large. We're defaulting to "True to size" for the feed but flagging this for your input.

Intercom Support Data: 67,000 Size & Fit Conversations

Analysis of ~118,700 customer-initiated product conversations. Size & Fit is the #1 topic at 56% of all product conversations (~67,000). This data directly informs why accurate Fit Type and Size Guidance values in the feed matter.

Scale of the problem: 71,339 unique "Size and fit" conversations since 2024 — growing fast: 19k in 2024, 36k in 2025, and 16k in the first 3 months of 2026. That's ~10% of all customer conversations. Every piece of sizing data we can put in the feed reduces this volume.

The 10 Biggest Size & Fit Question Types

#Question TypeVolumeFeed Impact
1 "What size am I?" Highest Size Guidance value helps AI agents answer faster
2 Height/weight recommendations Very high True-to-size signal reduces need for human agent
3 Fit Finder tool broken/not loading High Feed data provides fallback when tool fails
4 Wrong size received / doesn't fit High Better fit labels could prevent wrong purchases
5 Size exchange requests High Direct cost of inaccurate sizing info
6 Between two sizes Medium Fit Type value helps customers self-serve the decision
7 "Is it baggy or slim?" — Fit style preferences Medium Direct feed match
This is exactly what Fit:Fit Type answers
8 Kids/teens sizing Moderate Not addressable via feed
9 Short/tall/inseam length Moderate Not addressable via these two attributes
10 Layering & cross-gender sizing Moderate Fit Type (Relaxed = more layering room) partially helps

What CX Agents Already Tell Customers About Fit

Support agents have been answering fit questions with these classifications. This is the language customers already hear — and what we should match in the feed.

Agent Fit Script (from Intercom)

Regular Adept, Akin, Fawk, Notorious BIB, Iconic
Relaxed Blizzard, Yeti, Legacy, Dozer
Boxy Cyclone, Spartan
Baggy BIG pants
Slim Con, Tigress

Actual Agent Quote

"Here's a breakdown of the different fits: Blizzard W: Relaxed Fit, Tigress W: Skinny Fit, Con W: Slim Fit, B.I.G W: Baggy Fit, Notorious B.I.B: Regular Fit, Iconic W: Regular Fit"

This is shared hundreds of times per week. If Fit Type is in the Google Shopping feed, AI shopping agents can surface this without human intervention.

What Customers Actually Ask (Verbatim from Intercom)

"Are your jackets true to size or do they fit oversized?"

"Hi, are the pants normally regular fit or slim?"

"I want a baggy look. What style should I go for?"

"Which ski pants are slim or regular fit? Not relaxed or baggy"

"Is the Doom jacket a baggy fit?"

"Hello! Are your clothes already oversized or should I look for a bigger size?"

"What is your trim fitting pant? I have skinny legs and don't like baggy"

"Is the ARCH line baggy or slim fitting?"

CX insight — Dope vs Montec sizing: Agents consistently tell customers that "Dope tends slightly more relaxed" than Montec for the same size. This suggests Dope's "Regular" and Montec's "Regular" may not mean exactly the same thing — worth noting when validating fit values.

Key Learnings from 67k Conversations

1
Fit Type is asked thousands of times — and agents already have the answer.
CX agents share fit classifications (Regular/Relaxed/Boxy/Baggy/Slim) hundreds of times per week. This data exists in agent scripts but not in the product feed. Adding it to the feed means AI shopping agents and Google can surface it without human intervention.
2
The Fit Finder tool is frequently broken — feed data is the fallback.
Multiple sub-categories of support conversations exist purely because the "Find Your Size" button doesn't load. Having Fit Type and Size Guidance in the Google Shopping feed gives AI commerce tools a structured data point to work with regardless of on-site tool status.
3
"Between two sizes" is a massive question category — Fit Type helps resolve it.
When a customer is between M and L, knowing "Relaxed fit" suggests sizing down, while "Slim fit" suggests sizing up. The Fit Type value directly supports this decision-making at the point of discovery (Google Shopping) before the customer even reaches the PDP.
4
Sizing conversations are growing 80%+ year-over-year.
19k in 2024 → 36k in 2025 → 16k in Q1 2026 alone. At current trajectory, 2026 will exceed 60k sizing conversations. Structured feed data is one of the fastest ways to deflect this volume.
5
Agent fit classifications match our proposed feed values almost exactly.
The CX team already uses Regular, Relaxed, Boxy, Baggy, Slim — the same values we're proposing for the feed. Only minor discrepancies (e.g. Arch listed as "Relaxed/boxy" by agents vs "Relaxed" in production sheet). This alignment means the feed values will be consistent with what customers who contact support are already told.

Product Reviews: Sizing & Fit Feedback

Analysis of 1,901 verified product reviews for ski jackets and pants across both brands. Of these, 511 explicitly mentioned sizing (27%), and 114 filed a sizing complaint that led to an exchange or return.

Sizing Complaints by Category

Ski Pants69 complaints (61%)
Ski Jackets45 complaints (39%)

Pants generate 1.5x more sizing complaints than jackets despite fewer total reviews. Pants sizing is the bigger pain point.

Direction of Sizing Issues

Too large / runs large69 complaints (61%)
Too small / runs small35 complaints (31%)
Other sizing issue10 complaints (8%)

2:1 ratio of "too large" vs "too small". Products overwhelmingly trend large when sizing is off.

Complaints by Brand

Montec60 complaints (53%)
Dope54 complaints (47%)

Despite Montec having fewer total reviews (768 vs 1,133), it generates more sizing complaints — proportionally ~2x the complaint rate.

Model-Level Sizing Accuracy

Based on reviews where customers explicitly mentioned sizing. Models with fewer than 5 sizing mentions excluded.

What Customers Say About Fit Style

66 reviews explicitly commented on their fit preference. Key themes:

Baggy / Loose Preference — 34 mentions

Most common on Spartan, Yeti, and Annok. Customers choosing these models want the oversized look: "10/10 baggy fit", "fitted well if you want a spacious model"

Fitted / Snug Preference — 19 mentions

Most common on Con W, Dune W pants, and Moss W. Customers appreciate the slimmer cut: "pretty snug fit, nice slim cut all the way down", "fit like a glove"

Relaxed Preference — 13 mentions

Most common on Doom, Fawk jacket, and Yeti. The "goldilocks" fit: "nice relaxed fit", "roomy but not too wide", "comfortable and casual fit"

Representative Customer Quotes

Montec Fawk Pants"Despite my 1.8m and 94kg the XL pants are too big for me. Size L is perfect."

Montec Dune W Pants"Ordered S but experienced them very tight over the thighs, then ordered M and they felt like two sizes larger than S."

Montec Moss W Jacket"I usually wear M but had to send back the S because it was too big."

Dope Blizzard Jacket"Great jacket. Fits perfectly as expected based on the size chart."

Montec Doom Jacket"Excellent jacket and value for money, nice relaxed fit. I took the same size as normal."

Montec Dune W Jacket"A little tight at the elbows. Unfortunately too small hood as I cannot have it over the helmet."

Key Learnings for Feed Values

1
Pants are the sizing pain point, not jackets.
61% of sizing complaints come from pants despite fewer total reviews. Accurate size guidance on pants has the highest impact on reducing returns.
2
When sizing is wrong, it's almost always too large (2:1 ratio).
69 of 114 sizing complaints say the product was too big. This is especially pronounced for Montec pants (Fawk and Dune W are the worst offenders).
3
Montec generates proportionally 2x more sizing complaints than Dope.
60 complaints from 768 reviews (7.8%) vs 54 from 1,133 (4.8%). Montec sizing guidance in the feed is more critical to get right.
4
Blizzard, Con W, and Yeti have the most reliable sizing.
69-81% of sizing mentions confirm "true to size". These are safe to label confidently in the feed.
5
Fawk + Adept have the lowest "true to size" rates (42-60%).
The Adept is particularly split — 31% say large, 25% say small. The Fawk trends clearly large (31%). Consider whether "True to size" is accurate for these models or if "Consult size chart" would be more honest.

Recommended Additional Feed Attributes

Beyond Fit Type and Size Guidance, two more product_detail fields would directly deflect high-volume support questions. Both have data available in the FW25/26 production sheets.

1. Features:Hood Type

Intercom signal: "Does the hood fit over a helmet?" is the #1 feature-specific question across all product conversations. Agents distinguish between "Storm Guard" (helmet-compatible) and "Weather Guard" (not helmet-compatible).
ValueApplies To
Helmet-compatible (Storm Guard) Adept, Akin, Blizzard Front Zip, Spartan (all), Vertex, Puffer, Legacy, JT Spartan, Fawk, Doom, Dune, Arch, Moss, Oracle, Morpheus, Virago
Standard (Weather Guard) Blizzard Pullover, Yeti, Cyclone

Feed format: Features:Hood Type:Helmet-compatible

2. Product Type:Closure Style

Intercom signal: "Is the Doom a pullover?" and "What's the difference between full zip and anorak?" are asked thousands of times. Customers can't tell closure style from photos alone. This is also the #1 axis CX agents use when comparing jacket models.
ValueDopeMontec
Full Zip Adept, Akin, Blizzard Front Zip, Puffer, Vertex, Spartan (all), JT Spartan Fawk, Doom, Arch, Moss, Oracle, Morpheus, Virago
Pull Over Blizzard Pullover, Yeti Dune
Half Zip Legacy, Cyclone
Side Zip Doom, Dune (2-way side zip)

Note: Doom and Dune have asymmetrical/side zips — production sheet says "2 way Side Zip". Could use Side Zip or Asymmetrical Zip as the value.
Feed format: Product Type:Closure Style:Full Zip

Conflicting Data — Requires Close Review

These 5 products had different fit information depending on the source. The production feature sheet (Nov 2025) is treated as authoritative, but the discrepancies suggest these should be physically verified before going into the feed.

Dope Vertex Jacket Boxy
25/26 Lookbook listed it alongside Spartan (Boxy) in the Freedom category
Relaxed
Production feature sheet FW25/26

Montec Oracle Jacket Regular
Product description emphasises "freedom of movement" and lightweight shell — typical Regular language
Relaxed
Production feature sheet FW25/26
Relaxed Description reads like a Regular fit jacket, but production classifies as Relaxed. New style — no customer reviews to cross-check yet.
Montec Morpheus Jacket Regular
Described as "super lightweight", "comfortable and versatile" — no relaxed/oversized language
Relaxed
Production feature sheet FW25/26
Relaxed Same pattern as Oracle — description suggests Regular, production says Relaxed. New style, no review data available.
Montec Fawk Pants (Bib) Relaxed
Product description says "baggier fit lower down provides more space and comfort"
Regular
Production feature sheet FW25/26
Regular Description explicitly says "baggier fit" but production classifies as Regular. Also has the highest "runs large" signal in reviews (35%). Could the description be misleading?
Montec Dozer Pants (Bib) No data
New style — not in any previous catalog or review data
Relaxed
Production feature sheet FW25/26
Relaxed Brand new product with zero external data points. Production sheet is the only source. Verify the garment matches the classification.
Action requested: Please physically check these 5 products and confirm whether the production sheet fit classification matches what you see on the garment. If there's a mismatch, let us know which source is correct so we can update the feed accurately.

Fawk Full Zip Regular True to size Classic all-mountain zip-through, standard silhouette
Doom Full Zip Regular True to size Same DNA as Dune with full zip, standard technical jacket
Dune Pull Over Regular True to size Standard anorak, no oversized/relaxed language in descriptions
Moss Full Zip Slim True to size "Form-fitting cut", "cropped shorter", "ditch the baggy look"

Kirin Pant Regular True to size "Same signature Montec cut" as Fawk, standard pant style

Dune Pant Regular True to size "Perfect balance between baggy and fitted", "slimmer cut on thighs"
Dozer Bib Relaxed True to size Production confirmed: Relaxed fit (new style)

Decisions Needed

1
Montec fit types now confirmed by production.
The FW25/26 production feature sheet confirms fit types for all current Montec products. Only the Virago and Dozer jackets (carryovers, not in sheet) are still inferred from descriptions. Photo studio team: please verify these two specifically.
2
Montec pants "runs large" signal.
35% of sizing mentions say Montec pants run large (vs 21% for Dope). The Fawk Bib is the biggest contributor. Should we keep "True to size" or change to "Runs slightly large" for specific models?
3
"Oversized" vs "Relaxed" for Virago.
The Virago is explicitly described as "oversized parka fit". Should we use "Oversized" (more accurate) or "Relaxed" (more standard in shopping feeds)?
4
"Boxy" as a feed value.
Dope officially calls Spartan/Vertex/Cyclone "Boxy". This is less common in Google Shopping than "Regular" or "Relaxed" but accurately reflects the product. Keep "Boxy" or standardise?
